You are going to have a lot of options available to you, especially if you live in a large area. The larger the area, the more companies are going to be in your general area. It can be nearly impossible for you to sort through them all, so I suggest taking a look at the companies that are going to be able to provide you with exactly what you were looking for, calling them, reading the reviews about them online, and narrowing it down to maybe just a handful of companies. I have been looking for some really interesting challenge coins that commemorate and honor those that fought bravely for us. 

Then, once you have a design in mind, you can call them and run your idea past. They should be able to tell you whether or not they are going to be able to help you with your situation. Take your time, try to find a company that is going to be able to work with you, provide you with exactly what you were looking for in terms of your commemorative coin or challenge coin, and also remember that you have to take your groups opinions into account as well even if you are leading the project as far as finding the companies go.
